Improvements Begin on Upper Roadway Expansion Joints

Starting Monday, August 5th, 2019 improvements will begin on the Upper Level Expansion Joints Rehabilitation Project at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE). This work is scheduled for the evening and overnight hours, which should have minimal impact to passengers on the Terminal Roadway System, however the construction safety phasing will restrict traffic lanes on the roadways during some periods.
The overall project consists of installation of the expansion joints from the upper side of the roadway, for a total of 6 expansion joints across this area, and an additional joint across the Flyover bridge connecting the roadway to the Smart Parking Garage.
The work, which will be done in phases, beginning on the north end of the terminal. Crews will work on the roadway from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday evening through Saturday morning. During these times the upper roadway will be restricted to two traffic lanes. All upper road lanes will be opened for normal traffic between 4 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Weekend work will only be required in the event of weather delays to the project. The work is scheduled for 100 calendar days and should be finished in time for the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel period.
The contract for the work was awarded to Great Lakes Construction in the amount of $1.4 million.
