Press Releases
In the latest United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) report, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) has the lowest average air fare in Northeast Ohio. This makes the seventh consecutive quarter that CLE has been the low fare airport of choice for travelers in Northeast Ohio. The first quarter of 2019 has CLE at an average of $323.39. Air fares are set by the airlines and change dynamically.
“We are so pleased that airlines that serve CLE offer travelers greater value in air fare selection,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “Our team continues to work towards lowering airline operating costs, so those savings can be passed along to travelers.”
According to the USDOT’s BTS, average fares are based on domestic itinerary fares. Itinerary fares consist of round-trip fares unless the customer does not purchase a return trip. In that case, the one-way fare is included. Fares are based on the total ticket value which consists of the price charged by the airlines plus any additional taxes and fees levied by an outside entity at the time of purchase.
Fares include only the price paid at the time of the ticket purchase and do not include fees for optional services, such as baggage fees. Averages do not include frequent-flyer or “zero fares.”
CLE offers a wide breadth of air carriers including ultra-low cost, low cost and legacy airlines to accommodate all of our travelers. Recent service additions include Delta Air Lines service to Boston, Allegiant service to Norfolk, Nashville and Sarasota, and Frontier with new service to West Palm Beach and Sarasota and expanded service to Vegas, Fort Myers, Tampa and Orlando and restarted service to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
