Press Releases
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) continued to surpass year-over-year passenger numbers during the airport’s 100 days of summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. August ended with 875,506 total passengers, up over 14% over August 2016. For the period May through August CLE welcomed 3,456,336 passengers bringing the year-to-day passenger number to 6,106,433 which has grown almost 8% over the same period last year or almost 366,000 passengers.
“Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is experiencing sustained growth. More airlines are establishing service in Cleveland. The airlines are increasing their available flights and are deploying larger aircraft offering more seats. In addition, improved airport services and amenities are enhancing the travel experience. As a result, more customers are choosing to travel at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and are making Cleveland their destination of choice,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.
“We anticipated a significant increase of passengers during our busy summer travel season, however these numbers exceed our expectations,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “It is not uncommon during large growth seasons that customer service may suffer however for CLE we met the challenge by adding numerous customer amenities to accommodate our guests and continue to make travelling through CLE a breeze.”
Amenities added include checkpoint wait times in-house and online, a Mother’s room for nursing moms, bottle fillers inside the security checkpoints, numerous enhancements to the Ground Transportation Center and adding parking updates to the airport’s website www.clevelandairport.com.
Also during the summer CLE was honored to receive its highest customer service scores in a decade from the Airports Council International’s Airport Service Quality report all while accommodating this remarkable increase in passengers. CLE has been committed to improving customer service to the guests we serve at our airport.
This is the 6th month straight CLE has passed 2016 passenger numbers.
