On August 21st, 2015, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) will present a revised Parking Canopy Project proposal to the City of Cleveland’s City Planning Commission. The original plan was to put a canopy over the Red Lot and part of the Orange Lot, but the revised plan moves the canopy from the Orange Lot to the Blue Lot.
“Moving the canopy from the Orange Lot to the Blue Lot leaves the Orange Lot open to the possibility of a parking garage in the future,” said Airport Director Ricky Smith. “By covering both the Red and Blue Lots together passengers will have premium covered parking right next to the terminal with a covered walkway all the way to the terminal doors.”
The new canopy structures will feature LED lighting, solar panels, and skylights in an aesthetically pleasing design to greet passengers as they pull into CLE. The estimated cost of the project is $9.8 million. During the construction, there will be lot closures to ensure the safety of passengers while the canopies are installed.
Ozanne Construction Company is the contractor for the project. Work is anticipated to begin in September 2015 and completed by May 2016.
